We’ve been living here in our home for just about three months and I feel like we’ve gotten so much done. The renovation part where we have to hire contractors is going slow because we’ve been experiencing crazy amounts of rain and it just slows work down, so we’ve been doing what we can wherever we can. The one room I’ve been finally able to completely makeover, is my office.

Before I show you all the pictures of the “After” lets take a look at the before.
This is photo from the MLS listing online. It looked like a really large bedroom-turned-office and really spacious, the carpet even looked in great condition. But when my husband flew to DC to close on our house, I was really disappointed when he sent me this picture of what it really looked like.
It was a tiny cramped bedroom with filthy carpet and dirty walls. I was just not impressed but I knew that I could make this office my own. Right away I had a vision that included a striking accent wall and simple decor. First things first, I had to rip out that disgusting carpet. It took me all of 30 minutes to do it and I was surprised at how amazing the floor looked after some cleaning up.
I removed all the staples and scraped up the carpet glue. I vacuumed the floors, and mopped about three time before I felt it was ready for a coat of refinisher. I applied two coats of this Hardwood Floor Refinisher I got at Home Depot. This stuff did wonders for giving my floor LIFE! It shined up like a pretty penny and still looks great after a few months of heavy traffic.
Now here is what the office looks like:
For the sake of keeping everything simple in case anyone has any questions on my office products, paint colors or decor, I’m going to list everything at the end of the blog post with links that will take you directly to that product and where you can shop. Remember, I get a small kickback for purchases made through my links, so thank you! For the stuff I can’t link, I’d be happy to tell you where I got it and if I can remember the price.
This house was built in the 60’s so of course ALL of the original fixture remained. Including the doors and shelves. I wanted this room to feel bigger since it was definitely smaller than the average bedroom, so I replace the entry door with a 15 panel glass door we got at Home Depot. I tried to find a vintage one, but it was just easier and quicker to buy it new. I painted it using Sherwin Williams “Iron Ore.”
I know I will get lots of questions about this vintage office sign, so I’ll drop the link below to where I purchased it. I love that it was small enough to fit at the top of my door and also that it matched with my rustic industrial black and white theme.
Doesn’t this office look completely different? I mean it FEELS bigger just because it’s not cluttered, and the white walls are refreshing. The black wall makes a statement while my rustic industrial vibe just comes through. I really love the final look and Im so excited to share more pictures with you!
Some of my pieces in here look familiar right? We brought this vintage bench with us from San Antonio, along with the rug. The curtains are also another reuse. They used to have a draw string that would pull them up from the bottom, but now they hang just perfectly.
The desk was a piece we already had and brought with us. Even though we moved, it was an easy disassembly and reassembly. All it is is black plumbers pipe and fittings with scrap wood planks. I needed something large enough for my computer, plus room to package, and set my camera, and crafts on. It’s a fairly large desk but perfect for what I need in an office where most of my time is spent on the computer.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that the top matched our floors perfectly. It was such an unplanned surprise but I was happy about it. This space was definitely meant for my office!
We also added new closet doors since the ones in this room were flat bi-folds. They just look dated, so these bi-fold panel doors were a perfect way to modernize the closet. I was also lucky enough to collaborate with D.Lawless Hardware on these doors and they sent me some dummy door knobs that just mount to the surface! These are perfect for those faux doors or closets like this!
This air vent was original to the house. Our entire home has these returns and I think they are amazing. This one was caked in 4 layers of paint and literally glued to the wall, but we refreshed it with Oil Rubbed Bronze Spray Paint to match our switch and outlet covers.
My husband also replaced the dated white ceiling fan that was in this room with something that fit just a bit more. This cieling fan not only matches the room perfectly with the oil rubbed bronze features and wood plates, but it was also super cheap. We bought several of these to put into other rooms in our home!
I brought this calendar back from my most recent trip to San Francisco with my sisters. I decided to put this up in my office to keep me focused on my goals and remind me why I work so hard. Plus California is just an amazing place to be!
I guess it’s only fitting I show you guys my new logo. I love that I designed this one myself. The round watermark will also be around for my branding, I love them both, but this one just gets me.
I hope you guys love our office makeover as much as we do. There are only a few things left to do like add crown moulding and hang up some small pieces of art, perhaps some shelves somewhere but for now I’m content with my space that not only inspires but motivates me to work harder than ever.

I just stumbled upon your website and am truly amazed. Thanks to you and your husband for your service to this country and inspiring us all to be our best! Your furniture is stunning and I love what you’ve done to your office.
I am in the midst of cleaning out my parents apartment (Dad died and Mom moved). In trying to figure out what to do with all the furniture, I decided to try my hand at painting. Still in the research phase, I’m so delighted to find people like you that are happy to share experiences and knowledge.
Thanks again for all you do. Good luck to you and your beautiful family.
