There’s something undeniably magical about the arrival of spring and summer. It feels like a fresh breath of air sweeping through our homes, urging us to lighten up, refresh, and shed the heaviness of the colder months. “Spring cleaning” isn’t just about dusting shelves and clearing clutter—it’s a symbolic reset. It’s about letting go of what no longer serves us and making space for the things we’ve forgotten or overlooked, whether that’s a brighter mindset or simply the joy of rediscovering long-loved pieces.
As spring blossoms into summer, one thing has been catching my eye again and again—not a trend or a theme, but a color. Yellow. From soft marigold to deep ochre and pale lemon, this cheerful hue is having a serious moment in furniture and home decor. Yellow brings an instant sense of warmth, optimism, and energy to any space, making it the perfect pick for seasonal refreshes. Whether you’re painting a vintage dresser, reupholstering a statement chair, or sprinkling in sunny accents, yellow has a way of breathing life into a room with its bold charm and timeless glow.
Let’s take a look at this furniture project we had in mind with this buttery, golden hue from the Gustavian Collection of Homestead House Milk Paints Swedish Yellow.

This blog post is going to be short, but I’m going to include a few photos to entice you into clicking over to the Homestead House website so you can see the step-by-step guide on how to recreate this look. Ill include a supply list for you here as well!
For now, take a look at the before shot:

Dark and boring right? The thing that caught my eye immediately was the spindle legs. They are so long and leggy and I knew that they needed to be a huge highlight of this project. A short summary of this project is how I start all my others, with a good clean using TSP Alternative, then mixing the paint 1:1 with water for that classic milk paint consistency. After two coats with a synthetic chip brush, finish turned out buttery and vibrant—exactly the kind of cheerful glow I love bringing into a space this time of year.

What really stood out to me about this color and brand is that Swedish Yellow is part of their Swedish heritage collection, and like all their milk paints, it’s eco-friendly and biodegradable. It’s a beautiful nod to tradition with a fresh, modern feel. I’m already dreaming up which piece I want to use it on next!

And check out how those dreamy legs look all polished up! Its amazing what a little wax and paint can do!
