Life lately at The Driftwood Home

Hi Friends! It’s been a minute since my last post.

The last year has been, without a doubt, one of the most challenging seasons of my life. Somewhere between balancing my career, my business, and family responsibilities, I found myself struggling to keep all the plates spinning without completely burning out. At some point, I realized I simply couldn’t do it all. I had to start prioritizing, saying no, and taking things off my plate because I had reached a point where I felt completely stuck. When you’re carrying so many responsibilities and trying to be everything for everyone, it becomes hard to make progress on anything at all.

At the same time, my husband’s military career was in full swing, and we were preparing for his deployment. That season required me to hold down the fort at home while continuing to juggle everything else life was throwing our way. Needless to say, some things had to take a back seat for a while, and unfortunately this little corner of the internet was one of them.

Over the past year, life and business have both been evolving in exciting ways, and while many of you have followed along on social media, I wanted to take a moment to gather it all in one place and share what’s ahead.

A Fresh Look Online

If you’ve visited the website recently, you may have noticed a few changes around here. Over the years, The Driftwood Home has grown right alongside me, and I’ve found myself wanting to create a space that reflects not just one part of what I do, but all of the things I love.

You could say The Driftwood Home is slowly evolving into a place where candles, home decor, design projects, travel, custom paint work, and all the little things that inspire me can live together under one roof. I don’t know if that fits in the “lifestyle” blog category, but for now that’s the direction I am heading. I’ve simply gathered all of my passions into one place.

As our collections continue to grow and evolve, so does the way we share them with you. One of the biggest changes this year is that there are now more ways than ever to shop The Driftwood Home.

You can continue browsing my Etsy shop from the comfort of home, set an appointment to visit us in the Candle Studio for a more personal shopping experience, or find select collections at our growing list of retail partners in Hampton Roads. You can find the locations HERE. At the same time, we know many of our customers have supported us from afar for years, and we’re committed to continuing to make online shopping simple and enjoyable, and hopefully sometime add the option to shop directly from this site as well.

a honeymoon in greece

On a more personal note, last summer brought one of the most memorable adventures of our lives…our honeymoon in Greece.

I will never forget that first breathtaking view of the whitewashed villages overlooking the sea. I will always cherish those slow dinners that stretched long into the evening. There was so much beauty in the ruins and architecture and so much love in the food. And the hospitality of the Greeks is unrivaled. My trip was filled with inspiration, beauty, and reminders to savor the pace of life wherever you are.

Travel has always been one of the greatest sources of inspiration for me, and I returned home with pages of ideas, fresh perspective, and more than a little appreciation for European design. Don’t be surprised if some of that inspiration begins finding its way into future collections and projects.

And speaking of future projects…

As we look toward the next chapter, there are some exciting things coming soon. Retirement from the Air Force is slowly appearing on the horizon, which feels both exciting and surreal to say out loud. While I have no plans of slowing down anytime soon, it does open the door for more creativity and more time spent doing the things I love.

You’ll likely be seeing more custom paint services, a few small interior design projects, and maybe even some new creative adventures along the way.

And because I apparently don’t know how to sit still for very long, I’m even considering a side adventure as a travel agent. If you know me personally, you know I love planning trips almost as much as I love taking them, and living vicariously through helping others create memorable experiences sounds like a pretty awesome way to spend my time.
